So, LA was fabulous! For those of you who don't know what I'm talking about, I went to my USC orientation Monday and Tuesday. MY SCHOOL ROCKS!! I was incredibly tired so I probably came off as pretty lame but I still managed o meet some really special people with whom I hope to develop some pretty stellar friendships. I absolutely love everything about my new school. I still can't believe they accepted me! It's BEAUTIFUL, the people are wonderful, the school pride is overwhelming and there are so many classes that I want to take that I wish I could stay there an extra year. College is gonna rock.
So I'm dealing with a really big question right now. Anyone who knows me knows that I need to have everything planned out ages in advance. Spontaneous fun is one thins but as far as career choices go I like to know exactly what I want and exactly how to get there. When I don't my world falls apart. So here's the problem...
Yes, I am definitely going to be a theatre major, it's what I've wanted all my life. But if I'm going to finish school four years from now after having spent almost TWO HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLARS, I need more than a B.A. in theatre, I need what my dad calls a "real major". I've gone back and forth between psychology and business but I know business just isn't gonna work for me. Now I don't know. You guys know me pretty well, what do you think??? Here is a list of some of the majors I am considering which I think I can handle doubling with Theatre. Let me know what you think.
1) French
2) International Relations
3) Political Science
4) Psychology
5) Sociology
6) Communication
What kind of jobs will each of those lead me to? Is French impractical? Is International rlations or Poli sci too boring? Do psychology and sociology leave me with nothing unless I get a Masters? What about communications? I don't know. Input???
P.S. I love Sylvia FOREVER for coming to my show!!
Love you guys!,

International Relations: *blinks* Not sure what you'd do with this either.
Political Science: Unless you double majored in the above area, not much you'd like.
Psychology: Would need a Masters I believe to even be a therapist. Could be wrong. You'd make a pretty good one, if you can go into therapy without a Masters, do this one. Child psychology would suit you.
Sociology: Right.
Communication: Ah. The age old "I don't have any idea what to do so I'm going to major in this!" major. Not really. There are some people who truely do take communication who want to be in communication - but not many.
Find soemthing that will help you work with kids. I think that would make you the happiest. The "fallback" that a lot of actors don't realise is there is TEACHING acting. You can always get your credentials and teach if things fall through.
Hope that helped.

As for the majors...naturally, the biggest question is: what will you find interesting? You don't want to be in a major that makes you unhappy, no matter how 'useful' you think it might be. Ultimately, it will just waste your time. That is not useful. As for the usefulness question, divorced from what I just said...(1) French won't be terribly helpful unless you plan to get a phd and become a professor. Or be a translator or something. Somehow I don't really see you doing that. As far as the other ones...you might want to figure out what it does for you to have a BA in those subjects.
To a certain extent, it also doesn't really matter that much what you have your degree in, as long as you have one. So then we return to the previous question: what will you find the most interesting? That's the real way to get the most out of your money, in my opinion.
